Speaker Lineup

Anja is the author of “Perfectly Imperfect Parenting – A Parent Guide” as well as “All About Max”, a book for children to help them understand their ADHD brain.

Anja supports parents and educators in looking beyond behaviour to understand ADHD through a brain and nervous system lens. Instead of asking, “What’s wrong with this child?”, her work invites adults to ask, “What is this child’s brain and body telling us right now?” Through her child-friendly psychoeducational framework, Anja helps make sense of how stress and dysregulation affect access to the Thinking Brain — the part responsible for focus, planning, impulse control and problem-solving.

Drawing on Polyvagal Theory and executive functioning, she explores why behaviour often reflects brain state, why many children (especially girls who mask) are overlooked, and how parents and teachers can respond by adjusting support and slightly lowering expectations to create safer, calmer and more learning-ready environments. Drawing on her own lived experiences, Anja helps you look at your child and yourself in a validating and empathetic way.

Ashley Cairns is the CEO of A Change for Better (ACFB) and Director of The ACFB Fund, a dual-structured organisation combining clinical services with a charitable model to improve access to mental health and neurodevelopmental diagnostics across New Zealand.

With formal training in psychology and counselling, Ashley has built ACFB into a growing health-tech company focused on addressing critical gaps in ADHD, autism, and mental health assessment pathways. Drawing from both professional expertise and personal lived experience as someone with AuDHD, she has helped lead the development of Lotus, an AI-powered diagnostic platform designed to streamline assessments, enhance clinical reporting, and reduce both cost and wait times for clients.
Ashley’s work sits at the intersection of healthcare, technology, and systems reform. She is actively involved in shaping new models of care, including GP-integrated diagnostic pathways and multidisciplinary service delivery. Through ACFB, she is working toward a future where timely, affordable, and high-quality diagnostic services are accessible at scale.

She has presented at national conferences, including ADHD-focused events across New Zealand, and delivered a TEDx Women talk on the Lotus AI and ACFB build as well as her own diagnostic journey. Her current focus is on scaling ACFB’s services, securing strategic partnerships, and positioning the organisation as a primary referral destination for GPs nationwide.

Emma-Rose Parsons is a psychologist, ADHDer and founder of Nurturing Sparkles, a neurodiversity-affirming platform supporting families, educators and clinicians. Through both her clinical work and lived experience, Emma-Rose has repeatedly observed that many people are expected to “set boundaries” without ever being clearly taught how.

This led to her presentation exploring boundary setting as a practical and teachable psychological skill. Combining humour, compassion and real-world examples, Emma-Rose highlights how explicitly teaching boundary skills can strengthen self-worth, emotional safety and relationships, while giving individuals the confidence to communicate their needs clearly, respectfully and without shame.

She is also the founder of Nurturing Sparkles, a psychoeducational platform providing accessible, research-informed resources for parents and educators supporting neurodivergent children.

Beyond her clinical work, Emma-Rose is the founder of the annual Mountain to Melbourne 180km ultramarathon, which she has completed in 26 hours. Across the 2024–2025 events, the initiative has raised over $110,000 to reduce fear and pain for children within Eastern Health services.

Lauren is a neurodevelopmental consultant and the founder of Somenté, a neuroscience-led practice supporting neurodivergent children and their families. With a background spanning rehabilitation, mental health, and paediatrics, she brings an integrated perspective that connects brain, body, behaviour, and environment.

She is recognised for her ability to shift the way people think about neurodivergence. Rather than focusing on behaviour as the problem, Lauren’s work centres on understanding the underlying neurological experience—how the brain interprets sensory input, demand, safety, and connection—and how this shapes regulation, learning, and daily life.

Through her work, she challenges traditional behaviour-driven models and offers a more effective, neuroscience-informed approach that is both practical and deeply human. Her ability to translate complex science into clear, actionable insights has made her a trusted voice for parents and professionals seeking clarity in an often overwhelming space.

Lauren’s work extends beyond individual families. She is building a broader movement to reshape how neurodivergent children are understood and supported—equipping adults with the knowledge, language, and confidence to create environments where children can genuinely thrive.

Tim brings over forty years of clinical expertise and a deep personal understanding of neurodivergence to the stage. Since graduating with a degree in Human Psychology in 1982, he has been a dedicated practitioner, though his most significant shift occurred in 2018 following his own ADHD and Autism diagnosis at the age of sixty. This experience now drives his focus on recognition and affirmation for the neurodivergent tribe through his practice, OZPSYCH.

In this session, Tim draws on his clinical history and lived experience to explain why ADHD and Autism are natural and meaningful variations rather than deficits. Blending science with real world stories, he introduces the concept of Coercive Neurotypical Demand, which explores the invisible pressures caused by an environmental mismatch, alongside the ND Wheelhouse, a strengths based framework highlighting where neurodivergent adults excel.

Attendees will walk away with a clearer understanding of why neurodivergent people struggle in some environments and thrive in others, as well as the language to describe experiences that may have previously felt hard to explain. This session offers a strengths based view grounded in biology and evolution, providing practical ways to reshape our thinking and improve future opportunities for our neurodivergent children. If you have ever felt too much, not enough, or out of sync with the expectations of others, Tim’s presentation provides deep validation and a hopeful, evidence based path toward a brighter future.
