‘ADHD Differences: Male vs Female’

Dr Ashar Khan has practised as a Specialist with expertise in Neuropsychiatry of ADHD at the Gold Coast for over a decade. He has attained extensive Advanced Training and expertise in ADHD and common co-occurring Neurodevelopmental conditions, esp. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). As ADHD and ASD have a lifelong prevalence and impact, Dr Khan caters to all age groups (0-65+ yrs.), as an ADHD Specialist Psychiatrist over a Lifespan.

Dr Khan has 12 years of experience as a Director & Senior Staff Specialist with Queensland Health Acute Care and Emergency Psychiatric Services, Gold Coast. Dr Khan had noted the vast prevalence of undetected ADHD during his early years of Specialist Training in Addiction Psychiatry, Twenty years ago.

In the ensuing years, he also observed shortcomings in Medical Training for Doctors in Cognitive screening, recognition and Interview techniques for detection of ADHD and related Neurodevelopmental Disorders embedded within Mental Health presentations.

Dr Khan also noted the prevalent community stereotypes, myths and stigma, lack of awareness and supports for ADHD patients and their carers. This was, in part, propagated by Media sensationalism, and an unwillingness to fact check modern Neuroscientific research and consensus.

Despite more than 10,000 research papers over the last 20 years, ADHD awareness in Australia has not only been lacking, but also invoking confusion, anxiety and often shame, Dr Khan decided to do something about it and established QANC in the Private sector. QANC Pathways for ADHD Diagnosis are driven by the ethos of ‘Discover Hope’.

In this presentation Dr Khan will discuss how ADHD presents differently in boys to girls as well  strategies and information to assist the different variations.
